Eli and Donna’s Process for Building Your Dream Addition

Starting With a Dream

Every home addition project starts with a dream. You close your eyes and see yourself occupying a space that doesn’t even exist yet. Everything is perfect, just the way you want it. The added space is exactly what you need for your home to fit you better. It’s not a clear vision, but the feeling is there. You know exactly what you want and you’re trying to figure out what it looks like. That’s where Donna, our all-star designer, comes in to help you visualize the possibilities.

Working With Your Space

Whenever we’re working with an existing structure, we have an existing space in which to work. We have to carefully measure what is already there and find a way to replace it with something else. Modern technology makes it possible to build these projects in a digital environment so we can move around inside of it and see from every angle what the end result will be.

Working on Technical details

Going back and forth on what the design will look like is the fun part. Next comes the technical parts. With the help of architects and engineers, we figure out what kind of structural elements will support the visual designs that were decided on. The end result is a blueprint that can be used to plan and then execute the project.

Pouring the Foundation and Framing the Walls

If we’re adding onto the footprint of your house, the project can resemble similar phases as building a whole new home. Digging for the foundation and footings, pouring concrete, framing walls, and building the roof are all part of an addition that makes it a trade-intensive process.

The amazing network of tradesmen we work with have proven time and time again that they can do their part accurately and up to our high standards. With a solid, even, and level foundation we can frame walls and build the rest of the structure without any major issues holding up the show.

Supplying the Power and Water to Your New Space

Almost all additions include some sort of electrical. We need lights, heaters, and plugins. It’s actually a code requirement to have these things. Running the appropriate wire from your circuit panel is a routine part of a home addition project. Sometimes the panel will have to be upgraded to handle the additional load.

Whether or not there is plumbing will depend on what the additional space will be used for. Since we’re tying into an existing water and drainage system, special consideration will need to be given early in the design process to make sure everything is going to work and to foresee any issues or increases to scope that will be necessary.

An Amazing Look for Your New Home Addition

50 Shades of Your Addition

The colors of materials that go into your addition will have a major impact on the end result. Are we matching another room? Are we repainting all of the walls? These questions can be tough to answer which is why we rely on the keen design-eyes of Donna to make sure everything flows and provides the desired effect and feel we’re going for. The walls will often be painted early in the process to keep things clean later on. Touch-ups will be done near the end as needed to make sure the final product is 100%.

Letting the Light In

It’s not uncommon for our customers to extend the scope of the project into the rest of their home to replace old windows, doors, or other fixtures that will be changed in the new addition. Windows will go in as soon as possible to close up the house to weather but interior doors will wait until almost the end to make sure they don’t get beat up from all of the traffic.

Durable and Good Looking Flooring

The flooring doesn’t only need to look great, but it needs to hold up to the abuse it’s surely going to receive from the day-to-day life of the inhabitants of your new space. Dropping things, dogs running around, children playing, and spilling liquids are only a few of the challenges your floor must be facing so we’ll help you consider all of these details during the design process so you don’t end up regretting the choice of having to look at a floor full of scratches.

Encasing Rooms and Walkways

The trim is what frames your floors, ceilings, windows, and doors. It’s what adds a depth of field to your walls and makes you take notice when you walk into a different room. The type of trim that goes into your addition will most likely need to match your existing trim so we can blend the rooms together and make it so you can’t tell where the old ends and the new begins.

Shining Light on Your Expanded Home

Finally, lighting is what makes the magic happen. A proper lighting installation accents the amazing features of your new room(s) while shining light, literally, on your day-to-day activities. Again, Donna’s eye for design when it comes to lighting puts the finishing touches on every home addition project we complete.

Growing Your Property and the Bottom Line

With additions, we are adding square footage to your home which automatically increases the value. On top of that, our high-quality designs and construction skills add additional value through the quality that can’t be matched anywhere else. It’s our passion to build the spaces that will make your life better for years to come, and those that inhabit the home after you.
