Hi, I'm Amy and this is my husband, Peter. We recently completed a full remodel of our kitchen and the entire front of our house, and we are absolutely thrilled with the results. It all started when we had a water leak while we were out of town. The water heater, located in the garage, caused damage to the laundry room and part of the kitchen. Since the kitchen was over 35 years old, we decided it was the right time for an upgrade. In addition to replacing the damaged areas, we made some big improvements. We pushed out the wall where the water heater had been and gained valuable space. We also extended another wall to better fit the new kitchen island. Walls that previously closed off the space were removed to create a full, open flow through the kitchen, dining, and living areas. The kitchen design was a true collaboration. I worked closely with Donna and her cabinet design team to choose countertops, appliances, fixtures, and hardware. We focused on making the space efficient, functional, and beautiful, something that would last another 30 years. One of the features I love is the prep sink we added to the island. It has a custom-matched slab cover and a garbage disposal. It’s going to be especially helpful during holidays like Thanksgiving. We also added deep drawers, a built-in desk area with file storage, and USB charging ports built into the island for convenience. The kitchen window was repositioned to center it perfectly in the space. We replaced the old sink with a large, open basin without a divider, which makes washing dishes much easier. We installed an induction cooktop, which is flat, easy to clean, and more efficient than the old gas setup. The refrigerator and stove locations were swapped for better flow, and we added a full-height pantry and storage for platters and cutting boards. We also extended the slab countertop into the laundry room for a cohesive look. What was once part of the garage is now fully integrated into the interior. We closed off the old back door and created a more direct exit to the yard. Even the outdoor steps were modified for easier access. Another change we made was removing a china cabinet to make room for a larger dining table. In its place, we added upper cabinets with glass doors, creating a wine and coffee station. All the lighting and electrical were upgraded too. From the very beginning, Peter and I worked together to clarify our vision. Then Donna came in, listened closely, and helped us bring it to life. We went shopping together for slabs and appliances. I found light fixtures I loved, and we pulled it all together to match our black, white, gray, and gold coastal style. It all came together beautifully. We started planning and permits in September or October of 2022. Demolition began on January 9, and now, just a few months later, the project is complete. The openness of the house now is amazing. There used to be a wall separating the dining area from the den, and taking that down, along with pushing out the kitchen walls, gave us so much more usable space. It feels like we gained an entirely new living area. Peter loves the openness and efficiency, and he gives me all the credit for the design. As a visual person, I really enjoyed picking out the slabs, finishes, tile, and color palette. It’s been a rewarding process from start to finish. Our friends hosted us for four months during the renovation, and now that we’re back in this beautiful new space, we can’t wait to return the favor.
